I scored slightly above average (in the high 150s) when I first started studying for the LSAT. After 6 months of studying only the PowerScore Logical Reasoning Bible, PowerScore Logic Games Bible, and official practice tests while working a full-time job, I raised my score to a 164, which was in the top 10% for my test date and good enough to get scholarship offers from schools ranked in the top 100 by US News.If you're looking for something concise that gives you enough information to score in the top 10%, this is the book for you. I recommend it over Kaplan and the Princeton Review. My friend worked for the Princeton Review and she said that Kaplan students scored higher on average. I looked at the Kaplan books and their books had a bunch of terminology that you don't need to know for the LSAT or law school, so I didn't bother using them. PowerScore Bibles and official LSAT practice tests are more than enough to prepare you for the LSAT. Just make sure you understand why you're getting certain answers wrong so that you don't make the same mistakes again.
If you truly want to understand how logical reasoning questions are structured, how to analyze the questions to determine the best answer, this is the best prep I've found so far.I took the TestMasters class, thinking it was the Test Masters course by Robin Singh, but it wasn't. If you want to take Robin's course, make sure you are looking at the right website (testmasters180.com, not testmasters.com). It was the worst online course I could have taken. The instructor for Logical Reasoning WAS AWEFUL!! Sometimes, he would just give you the right answer to the question, but wouldn't tell you why the others were incorrect. He also didn't give you insight into how and why the questions were designed. If you want more info on the course before you take it, I would be more than happy to share my experience with you before you spend $900.I wish I had checked out this book first. It would have saved me over $800 bucks!!!
There are no classes anyone in my state that someone can take to help prepare for the LSAT. The classes cost a lot of money, anyway. Buy the Powerscore books and more of the old actual test books, use the given study plan from the Powerscore books, and your scores will improve. I started my practice tests in mock trials at 151, and got a 163, which is 89th percentile on the actual test. I firmly believe if I had kept on studying, I could have scored even higher. I first started out studying with study books from other test taking strategy companies, and my practice scores didn't change. The Powerscore books immediately started bringing up my practice test scores. Powerscore methods work.
There isn't a better text out there to explain the ins and outs of the LSAT logical reasoning section, which is 1/2 of the test score! I've taken classes from Testmasters and this text includes material that is not in the Testmasters work books and occasionally mentioned in class by the teachers.The book takes you step-by-step through making the insanity of LSAT logic into something well understood.The text is THE "Bible" on the LR section and there is nothing better out there on paper. The best way to use this book is to read and work your way through it and apply your knowledge in to practice tests, which are not included. LSAT students usually read through the book two or even three times to absorb all of the information chocked between its pages. Make sure review EVERY sentence in this book and how it is applied in both simple and complex questions.There is an additional benefit to the Reading comprehension section. Some questions are similar, such as the inference/conclusion questions.I recommend this book to anyone serious enough to break new grounds in the LSAT.
This was the first book that gave me the breakdown of each type of logic reasoning problem set. It allows you to understand the type of logic reasoning/question being presented so that you may immediately begin to eliminate certain answers. This analysis will in other instances, let know what answer to look for based on the type of logic reasoning and/or question.For those of you looking for known shortcuts to understanding question types, then this book is for you. This is how I have come to do well, by knowing the shortcuts and secrets that would normally take a team of people to create.If you have a natural gift for distinguishing types of questions already, then you may find this book tedious and over detailed.
This book is not a casual read. You can not skim through it and expect to see great results. If, however, you are seriously studying for the LSAT and are prepared to devote some time to this book you will find it extremely helpful.I found the insight into the way the questions are developed especially useful. Now that I am able to better understand how the questions are being developed I am better able to discern the correct answers and even spot common incorrect ones very quickly.This is a great book and I found it the single most helpful item in my preparation for the LSAT. I was able to raise my practice scores from the low 160's to the middle to upper 160's- I find that to be a significant increase. I'm pleased with the results.
