About the Author
Buddy the Soldier Bear is Marie Joy's first children's book. It began as a sketch of a bear on a piece of paper at work one day, and developed into a charming tale that gives back to those who serve our country. Marie has a master's degree in Leadership from Grand Canyon University. She volunteers with the Blue Star Moms. She grew up in Massachusetts and New Jersey and currently resides in Scottsdale, Arizona with her husband. She has worked in healthcare, education, publishing, and the travel industry. She loves to travel and is a self-proclaimed "cruise addict," though one of her favorite places to travel is visiting her beloved grandsons in Kentucky. Marie's dad served in WWII and her oldest son served in Iraq and Afghanistan. When sending care packages to soldiers, she always dreamed of writing a children's story that could give back to our brave warriors. Through her writing, she hopes to inspire children to dream big, and to bring awareness to military and veteran causes. Buddy the Soldier Bear donates to nonprofit organizations who support active duty military and veteran's causes.

Having grown up in a military family, we sent my father care packages when he served overseas in the 60s. Then later as a military wife, my children and I sent care packages to my husband stationed overseas in the 70s. I know from the profuse thanks we received that those packages made a huge difference in moral not only for our family member, but to all their pals who benefited by the shared goodies. "Buddy the Soldier Bear" touched me deeply. Very effective illustrations and the story offers appreciation and compassion to those serving overseas with a tender touch from home. There is a sense of adventure as Buddy joins the soldiers during military assignments until he safely accompanies the soldier home. Thank you, Marie Joy!
I'm a bit biased as the illustrator is the son of a very good friend but I found the story and pictures to be very well done.I can't wait until another adventure occurs!

Great way to support our Troops. As a Veteran of numerous foreign conflicts I appreciate any and all who support our Military folks living in harms way. Excellent way to introduce younger family members to the subject of deployment.
